Netra Young, a multi-talented singer and musician, began to recognize her call into the work of God’s ministry at the age of seven. Her vocal abilities, clearly anointed by God, minister to the hearts of those who need a word from the Lord and a spiritual uplifting. She proclaims that her call of duty is as a psalmist who leads God’s people into an intimate place of worship and a dynamic praise that God will inhabit.
Since 1985, Netra has served as minister of music, musician, choir director, and youth worker for various ministries. From 1995 to 1999, she attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham and majored in Business Management and Recording Technology. During this time, she was also soprano and lead singer with the University of Alabama at Birmingham Gospel Choir under the direction of Kevin P. Turner. With this choir, she recorded and led three songs: “Where Shall I Go,” “The Just Shall Live By Faith,” and “There Is A Fountain,” all of which can be found on the “U.A.B. Gospel Choir Live” CD.
From 1998 to 2001 she was soprano vocalist and psalmist with Ben Tankard and Tribe of Benjamin. She recorded and led “Extravagant,” “Mighty Is Our God,” and “Blessed Is He.” She also recorded soprano background for the entire “Raize Da Praise” CD. In 2006 and 2009 she performed and placed as a top winner in “Showtime at the Apollo Birmingham Style,” the Sickle Cell Foundation Fundraiser. She has ministered in song for worldwide televangelist Jesse Duplantis and Myles Munroe. She was also privileged to be asked to open in concert featuring national recording artist P.J. Morton at Homewood Park, Birmingham, AL in the summer of 2009. Netra also placed in the top 20 finalist in the national Sunday’s Best Contest with over 5000 other contestants.
Netra is the proud wife of Dave Young, Jr., and mother of two boys, David and Alex, and three girls, Janavian, Diamond, and Jordyn. Her mother is Minister Frances B. Walton. And she has one sister, Tamika B. McNeal.
In her limited spare time, Netra enjoys working with youth and young adults by sharing life experiences and encouraging personal relationship with GOD, playing with her children, watching movies, and writing and recording music with her husband. She feels that it is important that people know that what is most important to her is “God’s happiness with me and His purpose being fulfilled her my life!”
